Veselka, the East Village restaurant that has been dishing out chill-chasing portions of rib-sticking Ukrainian food for seven decades, is the subject of a new documentary. The film, titled “Veselka: The Rainbow on the Corner at the Center of the World,” and narrated by David Duchovny, who grew up in the neighborhood, will debut at the Village East by Angelika on Feb. 23.

EV Grieve provides a brief description and a trailer, which follow:

New York City’s beloved Ukrainian restaurant Veselka is best known for its borscht and varenyky, but it has become a beacon of hope for Ukraine. As the second-generation owner Tom Birchard reluctantly retires after 54 years, his son Jason faces the pressures of stepping into his father’s shoes as the war in Ukraine impacts his family and staff.

Date Night at Applebee’s

If you dropped $799 to watch the ball drop at one of the two Applebee’s locations in Times Square on New Years Eve, then you might be willing to spend another $200 on a date night pass valued (by the chain) at $1,500-plus.

Here’s how they figure: The card entitles you to a discount of up to $30 of food and beverages (non-alcoholic only) per use. If you use it once per week — on date night — for an entire year, you will have saved the equivalent of $1,560.
