One of the distinct advantages of living in a city like New York that is conducive to walking is the number of favorable positive chances it provides. Let me give you an example. You’re in an unfamiliar part of town, it’s close to lunchtime, and your olfactory radar picks up the scent of pizza — which as luck would have it — turns out to be great. Just like that, the shop has a new customer and you — and your friends — have a new starred location on Google Maps. If it sounds like an idea whose time has come, that’s because it has.

Blackbird, a new restaurant loyalty platform that rewards regular customers with perks, is the latest brain child of Ben Leventhal, founder of the restaurant news site Eater and the restaurant-reservation service Resy.

The app, which is relatively young, has already been test-driven as you can see by checking out this post from March.

Better still, test-drive it for yourself this coming Sunday when Lovely’s Old Fashioned on Ninth Avenue is giving away cheeseburgers to all who stop by. The offer is limited to valid Blackbird users who tap anywhere in the store.
