Do you avoid talking politics at the dining table? That’s probably wise if, like many Americans these days, you’re highly opinionated and prone to indigestion when current events are the main course.

If on the other hand, you welcome a good food fight, the first annual Politics of Food event is just for you.

The event, planned for Nov. 16, is actually two events in one. In the morning, there is a conference, which according to the website “will explore an array of important food policy issues facing consumers and the food industry. We will bring together top chefs, policy makers, innovators and leaders from diverse fields to uncover and assess the most important issues and trends affecting the nourishment of our New York.”

Topics will include the future of food programs for the city’s most vulnerable communities and legislating nutrition.

The morning session, which will be held at the New York Institute of Technology  (1871 Broadway) will run from 8 a.m to 12:30 p.m.

At nightfall, everyone buries the hatchet in anticipation of the festival portion of the event, which includes samplings of the signature dishes of New York’s top downtown chefs. Live music and a DJ will be on hand.

The “eat and greet” will be held at the Museum of American Finance and will run from 7:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m.

Tickets for the morning session, which may be purchased here, cost $45 per person for general admission. Tickets for the evening session, which may be purchased here, range from $95 (general admission early bird) to $195 (VIP admission).
