This coming Friday the 13th, which falls in four days, will be lucky for spud lovers because it’s National French Fry Day and to mark the occasion the potato-powered FryGuys will offer two hours of free fries (or “frys” in their case). We’re talking free heaping helpings of FryGuys’ OG classic twice-fried fries hand-cut daily from Idaho Russets.
Free fries will be offered from noon to 2 p.m. at their East Village fry emporium (150 E. 2nd Street).
The 13th (and the 12th) will also mark the second and final chance for New Yorkers to experience Manhattanhenge. And you won’t find a better staging area than Tudor City Steakhouse, which is situated right next to the bridge in Tudor City overlooking 42nd Street (45 Tudor City Place).
Celestial celebrants can take advantage of the steakhouse’s Manhattanhenge Happy Hour from 3 p.m. to 11 p.m. both days. The liquid centerpiece of the festivities will be a special $5 Manhattanhenge Cocktail — a refreshing mix of rum, orange juice, simple syrup, and a dash of grenadine, all coming together to form a libation as golden-red as the sunset itself. The bar at Tudor City turns out a splendid Old Fashioned ($5); $4 beers and $7 wine and sangria will also be on hand. Renew your capacity with the restaurant’s $8 bar bites: filet mignon sliders, crab cakes, and mussels fra diavolo.
