I know what you’re saying: Cinco de Mayo has come and gone. Alert readers might point out that we even ran a feature earlier this year on where in New York to celebrate the holiday.

So what’s going on? The short answer is that May 5 doesn’t actually mark the day of Mexico’s Independence Day. The date that does is September 16, and even that isn’t the  date on which Mexico officially declared its independence.

But enough of this history lesson. The purpose of this column is to inform you that this coming weekend, Casa Carmen‘s two locations are commemorating Mexico’s independence with a live mariachi band. On Sept. 15, Friday, the band will serenade diners at the Tribeca location from 8 to 9:30 p.m. On Saturday, the musicians will appear at the restaurant’s Flatiron location during the same time period.

Casa Carmen, Tribeca, 114 Franklin Street, 917-540-5500; Casa Carmen, Flatiron, 917 540-5600.
