We’ve seen it all, from wine that tastes like Oreos to potato chips flavored with vodka to beer with the “essence of hot underwear models.” So it should come as no surprise when a leading maker of hot dogs lends its name to a beer.

Which is all that Nathan’s Famous, the restaurant and brand that sponsors the annual hot dog eating contest at Coney Island, has lent to Nathan’s Famous Lager. According to Brooklyn Magazine, the beer, brewed in conjunction with Coney Island Brewing Company, tastes like beer, not hot dogs. The brew is reportedly “full of bright citrus and floral aromas and the palate has a nice cracker malt profile, with a floral hop flavor.”

World Vegan Festival Cum Diwali at South Street Seaport

Diwali, an annual festival that symbolizes the victory of light over darkness, good over evil, and knowledge over ignorance, is one of the most important holidays on the Hindu calendar. It sounds like something we could all use a little of in these fractious times.

And it’s something you can take part in at South Street Seaport on Oct. 2. On that date,
World Vegan Vision is organizing a vegan/Diwali festival in coordination with the Associations of Indians in America. There will be vegan food vendors, cooking demos, and outreach opportunities.
