A 2019 ban on foie gras that was slated to go into effect this November has been deep-sixed by a Manhattan judge. On Thursday Judge J. Machelle Sweeting ruled on behalf of Sergio Saravia, owner of La Belle Farm in upstate New York, who had brought the suit to enjoin the city from going forward with the ban.
The ban, Saravia’s legal team had argued, would devastate his farm and others like it, forcing layoffs at a time when farmers are struggling to keep their employees on the payroll.
The ruling was welcome news not only for farmers but for lovers of the delicacy.
