If you missed out on last summer’s offer of mac and cheese ice cream, here’s a second chance to cross out a line on your bucket list. The mad scientists at Brooklyn-based Van Leeuwen Ice Cream have brought the improbable flavor back for a limited run, along with a brand new head scratcher: pizza-flavored ice cream. The product, which combines cream cheese and mozzarella ice cream with a tomato jam swirl and basil crust cookies, is one of seven new flavors slated for a limited 10-week run at Walmart’s. A pint will sell for $4.98 — stomach pump not included.
The other new flavors include hot honey ice cream, royal wedding cake ice cream, bourbon cherries jubilee ice cream, wild blueberry shortcake. The seventh, dubbed “Planet Earth,” consists of blue spirulina almond ice cream studded with chunks of matcha green tea cake.
As to whether there will be takers for the more curious concoctions, consider that last July’s Kraft Macaroni & Cheese ice cream sold out in an hour at $12 a pint. The clear message is if you churn it, they will come.
