The last time the name Yuu Shimano appeared in these pages, it was to report that the talented young chef had vacated his post at the French-infused neo-Washoku restaurant Mifune in Midtown to strike out on his own in Brooklyn. Last week, Restaurant Yuu finally opened in Greenpoint.

As was true of Yuu’s culinary output at Mifune, the cooking at his namesake omakase-style restaurant exhibits a decidedly French flair, from the smoked trout tartlet with fennel cream with which the 18-course tasting menu commences down to the duck truffle foie gras pie that brings the feast to a dramatic finish.

The restaurant offers two seatings a night at an 18-seat marble counter, Tuesdays through Saturdays. The price per person is $250, with wine and sake pairings beginning at $185.

Restaurant Yuu, 55 Nassau Avenue (Guernsey Street), Greenpoint, Brooklyn, 347-422-0270.
