Is it Hate Day again so soon?
When the owners of Miriam — a popular Israeli restaurant in Park Slope — arrived at work this morning, they were greeted by an insidious and hate-filled surprise. The restaurant’s exteriors had been trashed over the weekend and smeared with spray-painted graffiti.
Surveillance video reveals that the vandals visited the restaurant on Fifth Avenue and Prospect Place around 3 a.m. on Sunday. Alert readers may recall that a sister restaurant on the Upper West Side was similarly defaced with anti-Semitic F-bombs in 2022.
Rafael Hasid, one of the owners of the restaurant, told members of the NYPD Hate Crimes Task Force that the restaurant isn’t connected to the unrest happening in Israel.
The vandalism came ahead of International Holocaust Remembrance Day, which is today.
Mayor Eric Adams, who provided the photo appearing in this article, called the attack “a despicable act of antisemitism, adding “I am particularly heartbroken by this evil act. … Make no mistake, the NYPD is investigating and will find those responsible. We will never tolerate hateful acts like these here. Ever.”
