If you still haven’t reserved a table for Valentine’s Day, be advised that the clock is ticking and you have less than a week to go. To help you decide, here are a few interesting possibilities that will make for a memorable evening.
For the carnivorous couple, a dependable choice is Tudor City Steakhouse, reviewed in these pages last October. To achieve an air of romance, the restaurant will be lowering the lights, not to mention its prices. A prix fixe that includes a Champagne toast is available for $59.95 — approximately the menu price of a steak alone. Starters include lobster bisque and the house’s plump crab cake. Among the main courses you will find grilled petite filet mignon accompanied by mashed potatoes and sautéed broccoli, and chicken marsala with a chef’s choice of vegetables. Dizzy’s Club Coca Cola, in Lincoln Center, will present a full evening of song and sustenance. Vocalist Brianna Thomas and jazz singer Vuyo Sotashe will render a set of tunes from the Great American Songbook. While savoring their voices, tuck into your Valentine’s Day dinner, beginning with the likes of warm maple-glazed Hudson Valley foie gras, served with pickled pear, or pan seared diver scallop with spiced citrus purée and wild berry gastrique. Gently cooked East Coast halibut napped with a verjus beurre blanc arrives in the company of Carolina Gold mushroom risotto, or choose hanger steak with celeriac purée and Swiss chard. Conclude with either fig tart with spiced port and almonds or white chocolate raspberry cheesecake. The price, including tax, gratuity and cover charge for performances is $155 per person. The Flatiron and Bryant Park branches of Burger & Lobster will emphasize their sea connection on Valentine’s Day with a lobster lovers prix fixe that features a selection of East and West Coast oysters with three house-made sauces, a lobster bisque intermezzo, and two one-and-a-half-pound Nova Scotia lobsters. Two glasses of sparkling rosé are included. A dessert tasting for two completes the feast, which runs $95 for two. The restaurant will be observing pre- and post-Valentine’s Day celebrations with a burger lovers combo priced at $70 per couple.
