Imagine all the things you could buy if someone handed you $1,000 right now. You could buy a pretty decent laptop. You could buy a Tag Heuer watch.
Or you could blow it all on breakfast — specifically on a single bagel.
According to NBC New York, the Westin New York in Times Square is offering a $1,000 bagel for a limited period starting next month. The item, which was first introduced ten years ago, is making a comeback.
So what accounts for the stratospheric price? White truffles from Alba, for one thing. These fungi, which go for as much as $10,000 a pound (yes, that’s thousand!), are one of the most expensive foods on earth. Here they come as a schmear in the form of truffle cream cheese.
Then there is the flakes of edible gold leaf. And finally, the extravagant nosh is with crowned with goji berry-infused Riesling jelly.
Before you declare that the bagel is out of your price range, know that the price includes tax and tip. What’s more is that 100% of the proceeds from the sale of the bagel will be donated to Holy Apostles Soup Kitchen.
The bagel will be available at the hotel’s Foundry Bar during breakfast hours from Nov. 1 through Dec. 15. The kitchen needs 24 hours advance notice.
