Call it the lost or forgotten national food holiday. It’s National Cheese Pizza Day: emphasis on the cheese. It lacks the cachet of its all-encompassing sibling, National Pizza Day in February, which gets all the hoopla and where discounts abound throughout the city.

Happily, this year at least one outlet has remembered National Cheese Pizza Day. It’s the full-service Italian restaurant Masseria dei Vini, in Hell’s Kitchen, and on Sept. 5 — the official date of the food holiday — customers who dine in on any of the house’s pies will receive 15% off.

The Neapolitan-style pies are produced in a wood-burning oven fueled with lava rocks from Mt. Vesuvius. All ingredients used are imported from Italy and stamped with the Denominazione di Origine Protetta (DOP) mark to provide diners with an authentic Italian experience.
