There are a number of methods you can use to determine the doneness of meat during cooking, such as pressing on it to see how firm it is. But what can you do to ensure your ground meat is juicy when making burgers?

The answer is actually simpler than you know, and it works every time. The secret is to insert a small ice cube in the center of each burger. (To get ice cubes of the needed size, fill your ice cube tray halfway up.)

That’s all there is to it. As the patty cooks, the ice melts, not only adding moisture to the meat but ensuring that the center takes longer to heat through and, thus, remains rare and juicy. And don’t worry about the edges overcooking. Instead they will be delightfully crisp.
