Holiday pop-ups in New York are nothing new. Rolf’s, in Gramercy Park, morphs into a virtual enchanted forest every year at Christmastime, and The Cabinet, a bar in Alphabet City, transforms itself — and even its website — to “Miracle on 9th Street.” (Just don’t trip over one of Santa’s elves!)
This year Roberta’s Pizza, in the Penn District, will be joining the competition. The restaurant is partnering with DIO Cocktails (the cocktails in a can), to bring New Yorkers a “fun take” on “Scrooged,” the 1988 film comedy of the same name.
The event will be held in a heated tent and features a seasonal menu. The beverage program will be limited to DIO cocktails, which are eminently drinkable despite the images the phrase “cocktail in a can” conjures up.
On Dec. 15, Roberta’s will be the scene of a gingerbread house-building challenge. The winner of the contest, which is open to the public, will receive a $100 Roberta’s gift card and merch swag bag. The event starts at 1 p.m. with the competition kicking off at 2 p.m.
“Scrooged,” the pop-up, is slated to run through Jan. 10, 2025 from 5 to 10 p.m. daily.
