It’s not pizza, the ad tagline goes. Only it sort of is. It’s also not but sort of is fried chicken.

It’s Chizza, and according to a press release from KFC, it is “two 100% white meat Extra Crispy™ fried chicken filets topped with zesty marinara sauce, melty mozzarella cheese and crispy pepperoni.”

This latest heart attack waiting to happen was first introduced on KFC menus in the Philippines in 2015. From there it made its way to Korea, Taiwan, India, Thailand, Germany, Spain, and Mexico, among other countries. Now, it is being offered for the first time to U.S. markets.

The official release date for the product is Feb. 26. But before that, New Yorkers will get a first chance to experience the Chizza — and it won’t cost them a dime:

To celebrate its stateside debut, KFC will transform its restaurant at 242 E 14th Street in New York City — the pizza capital of the U.S.(!) — into a one-of-a-kind “Chizzeria” pop-up where customers will get to try Chizza before anyone else for free. The KFC Chizzeria offers one menu item only, hot & fresh Chizza, in a KFC-ified, modern take on a classic pizzeria. The world’s first Chizzeria (probably) opens its doors for a limited time, Friday, Feb. 23-Feb. 24 (1-9 p.m. ET). …

The release advises that KFC customers can use the chain’s app to order their Chizza ahead of time and skip the line to pick it up on KFC’s dedicated Quick Pick-Up shelf. I assume that  devotees of KFC, of which I am not one, will know what that means.

As for the “pizza capital of the world” language in the presser, KFC should be aware that New York pizza was very recently downgraded to an also-ran in a national survey.
