Delmonico’s — the legendary Financial District restaurant — has announced that it is returning this fall. The new generation of Delmonico’s, which has opened and closed repeatedly over the years since it first opened in 1826, will operate out of its semi-original address at 56 Beaver Street.
The restaurant’s list of notable customers included Abraham Lincoln, Lillian Russell, Jenny Lind, Diamond Jim Brady, and Boss Tweed.
The kitchen will now be helmed by Michelin-starred Chef Edward J. Hong, who said in a statement, “I’m excited to enrich Delmonico’s dining experience by introducing the option of new global flavors and techniques while also celebrating its classic dishes.”
The classic dishes in question will include baked Alaska, lobster Newberg, and chicken á la Keene (often misspelled as “á la king”).
