It’s said that you can’t eat your cake and have it, too. But here’s your chance to prove that adage wrong. Through Nov. 31, Morgenstern’s Finest Ice Cream on the Lower East Side will be featuring its NY Honey Apple ice cream, and $1 of every cone purchased will go to support The Sylvia Center, a non-profit organization dedicated to improving the lives of young people and their families by inspiring them to develop healthful eating habits. Even after the flavor of the blend, based on locally sourced ingredients is but a memory, the knowledge that you donated to a worthy cause will stay with you.

The flavor beat out two others — Sweet Potato Gingersnap Cookie Dough and Pineapple Beet Tamarind — created expressly for Oct. 26th Art of Cooking Gala. The concoctions represent a collaboration between the eponymous emporium’s owner, Nicholas Morgenstern, and a group of teens who completed 60 hours of culinary training at the center.

All were challenged to conceive ideas for three flavor profiles inspired by fall, their favorite foods, and/or their neighborhoods. Texture, color, and smell were to be factors in addition to taste.

The resulting flavors were sampled by guests at the gala who were invited to vote for their favorite.

Jon Bon Jovi, one of the celebrities who attended the gala, is shown casting his vote.
