After a one-year hiatus, the Gun Hill Barrel Aged Beer Festival is back.
The event, as attendees of the maiden 2020 edition can attest, is not for guzzlers of the suds but for connoisseurs who appreciate the complexities and nuances imparted to beer by aging it in wooden barrels that once housed a spirit or wine. This centuries-old process is still a cottage industry in America, having begun in the 1990s.
This year some two dozen craft breweries from all of the East Coast will gather in the Bronx, home of the event’s host, Gun Hill Brewing Company, to offer samplings of their barrel-aged product. For a complete roster of attending breweries, click here.
Tickets may be purchased here. General admission ($70) will cover entry (from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m.), all of your beer samples, a souvenir sample glass, and a 375-mL bottle of Gun Hill’s 2021 vintage Proprietor’s Reserve Ft. Ticonderoga Rum-Barrel Aged Barleywine. VIP tickets ($90) include all of the above plus one hour early access (from noon to 1 p.m.) and a bottle of limited-edition barrel-aged beer (TBA).
Live music will be on hand, and food may be purchased from bodega trucks.
