Chalk it up to the abnormally high temperatures that have been exerting a vice-like grip on much of the country, but another act of culinary madness has been committed in our midst. Mars, Inc., maker of Skittles candy, has teamed with the makers of French’s mustard to provide a mustard-flavored variation of the sweet treat. The curious candy is being released to coincide with National Mustard Day, which falls on Aug. 5.

In a statement, Valda Coryat, North America Vice President of Marketing for McCormick & Company, writes, “With the yellow holiday landing on August 5th, we knew we had to outdo ourselves. We are thrilled to collaborate with SKITTLES to deliver our beloved Classic Yellow® Mustard tang in a new and fun way to French’s and SKITTLES fans alike.”

As part of its promotion of the product, the company has dispatched a mustard mobile to visit cities up and down the East Coast, beginning with Atlanta on Monday and reaching New York on Aug. 5. The vehicle, which will be parked at Hudson River Park, 555 Twelfth Avenue, between 11 a.m. and 3 p.m., will be handing out limited edition swag as well as free samples of Mustard SKITTLES®.
