I’m old enough to remember when people went to sporting events for the sports. If you got hungry while spectating, you could always quell your pangs with peanuts, popcorn, or a lukewarm boiled hot dog.
But stadium food has been on the rise in quality for some years now, and this year it will reach a new plateau. On Aug. 25, between 7 p.m. and 9 p.m., fans at Arthur Ashe Stadium for the third day of qualifying matches in the U.S. Open will take part in the first ever U.S. Open Food Event. Chefs like Alex Guarnaschelli, David Burke, Josh Capon, Pat LaFrieda, Chef JJ Johnson will be on hand to feed tennis lovers and food lovers alike.
The menu of possibilities will include a lobster BLT, ribs from Korilla and Hill country BBQ, and ice cream from Van Leeuwen.
