The Neptune Diner, in Astoria, has served its last meal. The diner, situated at the corner of Astoria Boulevard and 31st Street, has been a fixture of the community since 1984.
Last Sunday, loyal locals made a final pilgrimage to the diner, to pay their final respects as it were.
The reason for the restaurant’s closure was an inability to come to a long-term agreement with the landlord after their lease expired. That was back in 2019, and since then the diner has operated on borrowed time.
The plan now is to build a residential development on the property, a move that doesn’t sit well with many of the regulars.
The family that ran the diner owns two other locations, one in Queens and another in Brooklyn. But one imagines that is cold comfort to those with memories of meals and happier times.
