Last month, we reported that Trattoria One Fifth, Marc Forgione’s swanky Italian restaurant at the storied address off Washington Square, had closed.

The announcement of the closure gave rise to all manner of conjecture about who would move into the elegant space, noted for its lavish Art Deco trappings. For the 20 years prior to Forgione’s stewardship, the address had been home to Otto Enoteca Pizzeria, overseen by industry pariah Mario Batali.

Last week, the identity of the next tenant was revealed.

Devotées of the Golden Steer (and their numbers are reportedly legion) regard it as Las Vegas’s quintessential steak restaurant. A page of the restaurant’s website notes that it “is the oldest continually operating steakhouse in Las Vegas and has been serving ‘The Best Steaks on Earth’ TM since 1958,” adding that it was “a beloved hangout spot for the Mafioso [sic] back in the day.”

One just wonders whether the new occupants will have the city’s approval to construct a strip mall around the entrance.
