Call it “flour power.” Its actual name is Empower Through Flour, and it’s an initiative created in 2018 by a female pastry chef named Angela Garbacz. Its goal is to bring together influential women from around the country to raise funds and spread the mission and message of Girl Up, a global leadership development initiative positioning girls to be leaders in the movement for gender equality.
For Women’s History Month, which runs through the end of March, Bella Gioia, a Sicilian restaurant in Brooklyn (reviewed here), will be taking part in this important effort. The restaurant will be donating a portion of the proceeds when customers order pastry chef Paola De La Cruz’s blueberry cheesecake with lavender gelato, pistachio and white chocolate crumble, floral meringue, and sponge cake. Bella Gioia, 209 Fourth Avenue (bet. Union and Sackett Sts.), Brooklyn, 347-223-4176.
