Last winter, Economy Candy, which has been a fixture on Rivington Street since 1937, made headlines when it opened a second location. Now the store is in the news again, this time because the city is erecting a street sign at the corner of Rivington and Essex Streets honoring Economy’s founder, Morris “Moishe” Cohen, who died in 2015 at the at age of 97.
The dedication, which is scheduled for today, July 29 (Cohen’s birthday falls on the 30th), will take place at 10:30. It will be followed by an all-day party featuring special treats, goodie bags, and contributions by other confectionary vendors.
