According to a 2023 survey of 1,000 American wine drinkers, nearly half know of orange wine’s existence, and a majority say they have tasted it. If you consider yourself a wine lover but have never tried wine’s “fourth color,” it’s high time you did. And the ideal venue for learning why these refreshing wines are so popular is the third annual Orange Glou Wine Fair, which will be held in Union Square on Nov. 3.

This year’s event will offer a chance to taste some 100 orange wines from the world’s leading orange wine-producing regions in Austria, Italy, and Slovenia and from such top producers as Weingut Maria & Sepp Muster, Georg Schmelzer, Weingut Heinrich, and Markus Altenburger.

What Are Orange Wines?

Far from a passing fad, orange wines date back thousands of years to the region known today as Georgia. Also referred to as “skin-contact wines,” these wines are made with white wine grapes but vinified in the manner of red wines — with their skins intact. Hence their orange coloration.

The Orange Glou Wine Fair will have two sessions: an early session running from 11 a.m. to 2:30 p.m., priced at $65, and a late one from 3 p.m. to 6 p.m., priced at $75. Tickets for the two sessions may be found here.
