Orange wines (aka skin-contact wines) are soaring in popularity right now. No one is more passionate about this style of wine or knows it better than Doreen Winkler. Named one of “America’s Top Sommeliers” by Forbes, in 2019 Winkler launched Orange Glou, the world’s first orange wine subscription service, delivering a sommelier-curated selection of hard-to-find skin-contact wines across the nation. Two years later she opened the Orange Glou wine store on the Lower East Side, the planet’s sole brick-and-mortar store dedicated to orange wines.
On Friday, Oct. 18, from 6 to 9 p.m. the store will host a tasting party that is open to the public. Guests will sample 15 specially chosen orange wines from Austria, which is currently producing some of the most exciting and sought-after orange wines in the world. Austrian charcuterie and cheeses, including authentic Liptauer dip (cheese dip with paprika, caraway seeds, capers and more), will be offered along with pickles and warm pretzels.
Tickets, which may be purchased here, are $35, though be mindful that $10 of that fee can be applied toward any purchases made that evening.
