Javelina, which dubs itself New York’s first authentic Tex-Mex restaurant (and indeed offers a few out-of-the-ordinary kitchen creations) has just opened a second location on the Upper East Side (1395 Second Avenue, 917-261-7011).
To celebrate, the restaurant is offering free breakfast tacos — read: freshly made tortillas wrapped around scrambled eggs, cheese, bacon, and home fries — all week long. The offer is available to the first hundred customers who show up, so arrive as close to the restaurant’s 8:30 a.m. opening time as possible.
Among the more unusual items on the dinner menu is what the house calls “stacked brisket,” which is actually a stack of tortillas interleaved with layers of slow cooked brisket, onions, and cheese, the entirety drizzled with poblano cream sauce and accompanied by a zesty jalapeño relish. The house’s chili has won New York Texas Exes’ People’s Choice Award for best Restaurant Chili for three years running.
Javelina Union Square is located at 119 E. 18th Street, 212-539-0202.
