America’s only wine fair dedicated exclusively to orange wines is returning to New York this fall. The one-day Orange Glou Wine Fair, now in its fourth year, is the brainchild of Doreen Winkler, who has worked as a sommelier, wine consultant, and curator all over the world and is a foremost expert on skin-contact wines. These are wines are made using centuries-old techniques where the juice pressed from white grapes remains in contact with the skins during the fermentation process to create unique, versatile, and delicious wines that range in color from pale gold to orange to amber.
This year’s Orange Glou Wine Fair, which will be held on Sunday, Oct. 26, is anticipated to be bigger than ever with two floors showcasing over 150 orange wines to sample from wine-producing regions such as Austria, France, Slovenia, Germany, the U.S., the country of Georgia, and for the first time, Hungary. The fair is a one-of-a-kind event for orange wine enthusiasts, those new to the style, or anyone looking for a unique NYC event this fall. It is the ultimate place to enjoy the full spectrum of orange wines, including some very rare vintages, and meet winemakers to learn more about this ancient style of wine, which originated in the country of Georgia 8,000 years ago. Plus, all guests get to take home a signature Orange Glou wine glass — a $15 value.
Participating wineries include Austria’s Maria & Sepp Muster, Werlitsch, Franz Strohmeier, Markus Altenburger, Claus Preisinger, Weingut Heinrich, and Wachstum König; Georgia’s Anapea Village, Pheasant’s Tears, Okro’s Wines, Kapistoni, and Igavi Wines; Hungary’s Oliver Weingartner, Bökő Winery, Jász Laci, Vincze Tomi, Bussay Pince and more; America’s Ruth Lewandowski, Swick Wines, and Scotty Boy; Slovenia’s Cotar; and Germany’s Weingut Bianka & Daniel Schmitt; France’s Domaine Muller-Koeberlé, and more to be announced.
The Orange Glou Wine Fair (@orangeglou_fair) will take place at Home Studios, 873 Broadway (near Union Square, NYC). Tickets, which include a signature Orange Glou Fair wine glass, are $49 for the early session, from 11 a.m. to 2:30 p.m., and $59 for the late session, from 3 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. Dishes from Georgian restaurant Chito Gvrito will be available for purchase for an authentic Georgian food and wine pairing.
