Orange Glou, the Lower East Side shop that trades exclusively in orange wines, is throwing itself a fourth anniversary party and everyone is invited! If you haven’t yet discovered these unique wines, here is your chance.
Also known as skin-contact wines, orange wines are made from white grapes but macerated with their skins intact, like red wines. This imparts an interesting color and flavor.
For the event, Doreen Winkler, the store’s founder and orange wine expert, will be pouring rare sparkling pet nats from small producers in Slovenia and Italy, amber wines from The Republic of Georgia (where this style of winemaking originated thousands of years ago), lower-alcohol Protector Cellars Albariño Picnic Punch Piquette cans that are perfect for summer, and more, complemented by snacks made with local New York artisanal brands like chili oil and furikake from Holy Tshili, different labneh flavors from Bezi Labneh, vegetables, dips and more.
The party will take place on Saturday, June 14 from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. and is free of charge, though space is limited and attendees need to register in advance. Guests will be presented with tastings of 10 unique orange wines. They will also have an opportunity to win prizes — including tickets to America’s largest orange wine festival this Fall.
Orange Glou, 264 Broome Street.
