In the house where I grew up, Thanksgiving dessert was always a plural. The choices that would be marched out after the main course dishes were cleared away included fruit pie, pecan pie, and\or carrot cake, the number of each shrinking or increasing depending on how many relatives and friends showed up.

More recently, the choices have shrunk again owing to the arrival of the “multitasker “dessert, the undisputed king of which is the PieCaken. Dreamed up back in 2015 by pastry chef Zac Young, the legendary kitchen-sink mashup features a pecan pie base, a layer each of pumpkin pie filling, spice cake, and apple filling, the entirety stacked sky-high and swirled with cinnamon buttercream.

The only spot in New York City where you will be able enjoy this masterpiece by the slice is at Society Cafe, at The Walker Hotel Greenwich Village (52 W. 13th Street,), where it will be available for $16.

Did We Say? ‘Thanksgiving Dessert’

While we’re at, a “new cheesy trio” from Kraft merits a word or two. Namely, the label on the company’s familiar blue and orange box for a limited time will indicate that the contents include apple pie flavor.

According to the copy:

The flavors of dinner and dessert together at last. Just in time for Thanksgiving, Kraft Apple Pie Flavored Mac & Cheese brings the comforting taste you love, now with a shockingly delicious savory and sweet pairing.

Our first-of-its-kind mac and cheese flavor is packed with cheesy, apple-y, cinnamon-y goodness.
