Today, May 6, is National Teacher Day. It is also the first day of National Teacher Appreciation Week, which runs through May 10. During this period, selected restaurants and food chains are offering discounts and in some cases free food to teachers who present a valid school ID when ordering.
Arguably, no chain does more for teachers and healthcare workers (it is also National Nurse Appreciation Week) than Chipotle Mexican Grill, which has donated $16 million in free grub to educators and medical professionals since 2016.
This year, the first 100,000 teachers and 100,000 healthcare workers to sign up online will win a free burrito. Those selected will get an email to verify their employment status via ID.me; as long as they verify within 48 hours they get a free burrito e-card.
Other chains participating in Teacher Appreciation Week include:
- Applebee’s: Teachers who show a school ID will receive a free appetizer valued at up to $12 with the purchase of any main course.
- Burger King: Teachers who show their ID are eligible for a free order of fries with any purchase.
- Insomnia Cookies: Teachers can get a Classic cookie from May 5-9 when they shop in-store. No purchase is necessary for this deal, but teachers must show valid ID.
- Shake Shack: Teachers who present an ID badge will enjoy a hand-spun shake.
