When we wrote back in early June about the imminent closure of the 35-year-old Lenox Hill fixture Sel Et Poivre, we included the advice that the space had already been acquired by another party who planned to open another bistro.

Last Monday, the replacement officially opened for business. Its name is Monsieur Bistro, and according to its Resy description, it envisions itself as “a tribute to Parisian café life,” where “the vibes are light and carefree, much like the food.”

Like Sel et Poivre, the newcomer’s menu is comprised mostly of familiar bistro items — think escargots and steak au poivre. The team behind the restaurant also runs the tres-pricey Maison Close in Soho, which may explain the promotion in the Resy pitch of two “must-try” dishes — steak tartare and salade niçoise — that aren’t on the menu.

Monsieur Bistro, 853 Lexington Avenue (bet. 64th & 65th Sts.), 212-517-5780.
