I don’t know anyone who is thrilled with the choices this Election Day, though one reliable freebee-er is seeking to inject a touch of sweetness into a bitter campaign.

I am referring of course to donut chain Krispy Kreme. If you stop by any participating store after voting, you can claim your free “Original Glazed” donut and an “I Voted” sticker.

You can of course cheat and get a free donut without having voted by simply lying and saying that you have; KK has no way of checking. But after all, isn’t that what elections in our country are increasingly about?

Let It Rain

You don’t need to hold a degree in meteorology to know that New York City is coming off the driest month on record with no sign of rain on the horizon. At David Burke Tavern and Park Ave Kitchen by David Burke, as well as the three branches of Red Horse by David Burke in the tristate area, a new cocktail is being offered up in the hopes of appeasing the gods of weather while whetting the whistle of customers.

The libation is named the Gooch Raindance Martini in honor of Chef Burke’s longtime friend Mickey Gooch, who invented the drink. It is a tasty and spirited blend of Blanco Tequila, Cointreau, lime juice, and agave syrup. It normally sells for $15, but the price will be slashed by half on any day there is rainfall.

The recipe follows:

Gooch Raindance Martini

1.5 oz. Blanco Tequila
0.75 oz. Cointreau
1 oz. fresh lime juice
0.25 oz. agave syrup

Garnish with a lime wheel.
