The title of this post sounds as if it belongs on a ’50s-era B film starring Vincent Price. But The Fly in this case is a neighborhood chicken and wine bar, and Sunny is Sunny Lee, a Brooklyn-based chef who specializes in Korean cuisine, specifically banchan — Korean side dishes.
On Tuesday, Sept. 17, and Wednesday, the 18th, the two will jointly host a pop-up dinner of Korean street food featuring Sunny’s spicy plum rotisserie chicken ssam style, potato salad croquettes, very cold tomato salad (the chef’s adjectives), corn cheese rice cakes, and sesame mochi cake. The event, from 5:30 p.m. to closing, will be walk-in only; no reservations.

Adios, Mexico Lindo
Mexico Lindo, a fixture on lower Second Avenue for 52 years, has closed. The restaurant was decidedly old school: Waiters wore vests, and the decor offered much in the way of wrought iron and ceramic tiles. The huachinango in garlic sauce was so heavily fragranced by the bulb that its arrival was imminent from twenty paces.
A note at the restaurant’s website reads, “It has been the honor of a lifetime to have provided our family traditions, home cooked meals and love filled hospitality to your celebrations of life. We are proud to have been such a big part of your lives. It is with tremendous love and appreciation that we say adios.”
Right back at you, ML.
