If you are among the hungry hordes of New Yorkers who have waited patiently to sample Din Tai Fung‘s reportedly life-altering soup dumplings, your wait is finally close to an end.

The Thai-based chain, which previously had no U.S. locations east of the Mississippi, completed work on its first New York branch in Midtown, this week. The sign advising “steaming soon,” has finally been taken down, replaced by the chain’s neon logo.

The chain was founded by Bing-Yi Yang, who was born in China’s Shanxi Province in 1927. He emigrated to Taiwan at the age of 20 years with 20 dollars in his pocket.

The entrance to the New York restaurant, which is situated across the street from the 50th Street subway station, is a flight down from street level. Not surprisingly, it has instantly become the hardest reservation to land in Manhattan.
