Who’s up for a little game of “Where Are They Now”? The subject in question is Surprise Scoop, an ice cream shop that opened in the East Village last January. What distinguished the shop from its competitors was that it offered only one flavor per night.
Where the store is now is nowhere. Once advertising itself as “the world’s first flavor roulette ice cream shop,” it has announced that it is closing.
Last Sunday, according to EV Grieve, the principals behind the shop wrote on Instagram that “due to a lot of circumstances,” they had to close up shop.
So, what will become of the space at 139 First Avenue, between St. Marks Place and East Ninth Street? Surprise Scoop has “decided to give the space to friends who are interested in opening a skewer concept in the East Village.”
We wish them all the best.
