Last summer, we reported that three local bagel bakers — Olde Brooklyn Bagel Shoppe, Tompkins Square Bagels, and Bagel Point — had opened outposts on the Upper East Side. As if that didn’t offer enough of a choice for bagel fanatics living in the area, the ubiquitous PopUp Bagels, which has stores in the Village and on the West Side, not to mention in Connecticut and Massachusetts, has announced that it will be opening a shop on Third Avenue in the Eighties.
PopUp is something of an iconoclast among its competitors in that it serves bagels whole, rather than sliced, encouraging patrons to tear and scoop rather than spread the accompanying schmear.
The new location is slated to open this month.
PopUp Bagels, 1457 Third Avenue (at 82nd St.), New York.
