How many pushcarts and food trucks does it take to satisfy the cravings of eight and a half million hungry New Yorkers, plus the city’s constant stream of visitors? At last count the answer was 10,000, and tomorrow, Sept. 16, a healthy percentage of them will be assembling on Governors Island to participate in and celebrate the 13th Annual Vendy Awards.
Virtually every type of cuisine imaginable is hawked by the city’s sidewalk chefs, and the Vendys offers foodies a chance to salute — and sample — the wares of the best.
You can meet the finalists in the video that follows, but tasting is believing, and the event, like Santa Claus, comes, sadly, only once a year.
The all-you-can-eat event, which runs from 12:30 p.m. to 5:00 p.m., will be held on Colonel’s Row. Tickets, which begin at $60, can be purchased here. All proceeds go to fund the Street Vendor Project.
