There is beer that tastes like pizza, and wine that tastes like cookies. So why not wine that tastes like pizza? One can imagine the late night marketing session at pizza mega-chain Pizza Hut that resolved those conundrums.
And here we are.
The complete name of the product — Tomato Wine by Pizza Hut— tells the whole story more or less. It is a limited-edition offering made with tomatoes (infused with basil) in place of the grapes. The end product, the company reports, “captures the essence of Pizza Hut’s signature flavors in every sip.” Yum, just like grandma used to make.
The good news, if you haven’t yet started your Christmas shopping, is that the wine can be purchased as part of a gift set that also includes two Pizza Hut-branded wine glasses and a matching wine opener. (Talk about spiffy!) The whole shebang is even gift-wrapped in a “premium” gift box that looks just like a pizza box. Expect to spend $60. A bottle of tomato wine purchased separately is $25.
