Today is July 13, aka National French Fry Day. Which translates to free or free-with-a-purchase fries at fast food chains all over the country.

There are no surprises this year, though two chains, Checkers and White Castle, have attached a condition to their freebies. Checkers is requiring prospective fry recipients to sign a petition to have the National French Fry Day holiday permanently changed to a Friday. Get it — “Fry Day”?

White Castle is also jonesing to get the food holiday changed to a Friday. But instead of a signature, they are asking in-store customers only to present this coupon in exchange for a small fries (with any purchase):

Using the code “FRYDAY” for online orders is also permissible, though the order must be placed today, July 13, 2022.

Here is what the other chains are up to:

  • Burger King is giving a free order of “chicken fries” to Perks members with a $3 purchase on Wednesday, July 13, via their app.
  • McDonald’s is offering a free large order of fries to those using the company’s mobile app. No purchase is necessary.
  • Wendy’s is celebrating Fry Week, offering a different deal over the next three days, all conditional on using the company’s app and making a purchase. Today it’s free fries in any size, tomorrow a small seasoned breakfast potatoes, and so on.
