Today is April 1. You know what that means, right? it’s April Foods Day.
No, that’s not a typo. April Foods Day is the name that has been given to a virtual food drive meant to assist families in need during COVID-19 crisis.
Sponsored by Long Island radio stations BLI and WBAB in addition to Island Harvest Food Bank, the goal is to raise $10,000 by the end of today, Wednesday, Apr. 1.
Island Harvest serves over 300,000 Long Islanders through more than 450 member agencies.Over 95% of the donations the group receives go directly to its programs and services. Generally, the group assists Long Islanders who face a daily struggle with hunger. But in this time of crisis, it is extending its reach to veterans, seniors, working families, and school-age children impacted by the virus.
