Flowers? Leave them at the florists. Chocolates? They’re too fattening. If you want to win over that someone special on this day for lovers, the way to do it is by making a reservation at a restaurant.

According to a Rasmussen poll, a romantic candle-lit dinner was preferred by an overwhelming 61% of respondents in 2015, and the numbers haven’t changed much in the  intervening years. This year, 53% of American adults say that a nice dinner is the gift they’d most like to receive. In contrast, only 17% expressed a preference for candy, and even fewer — 12% — wanted flowers.
