It’s true — kids do say the darnedest things. So how would you reply if your tyke or tykette asked you the question in the headline? My advice would be to be read the answer right off the menu, which advises that a Hollywood Hooker is a “vegan chopped Philly with jalapeños, bell peppers and caramelized onions, topped with vegan provolone, lettuce, tomato, ketchup and vegan mayo, served on a hoagie roll.”

The Hollywood Hooker is just one of a host of similarly named sandwiches at Slutty Vegan, an Atlanta-based restaurant chain that opened its first New York location two weeks ago in Fort Greene, Brooklyn. According to the “About” page of the restaurant’s website, the mission of its founder, Pinky Cole, is to introduce healthier food options to the black community, which has notoriously high numbers in such lifestyle-disease metrics as hypertension, cholesterol, and obesity. Cole’s goal is noble though it might have been better served by offering more healthfully prepared foods. The vast majority of options contain griddled or deep-fried ingredients, and all the sandwiches come with fries.

If Hollywood Hooker is too risqué for your blood, you can always opt for the Ménage à Trois, the One Night Stand, the Big Dawg, or the Side Heaux.

If you do plan a visit to the Brooklyn store, be prepared to wait. Right now Slutty Vegan is hotter than a stripper’s panties.
