“Freaky Friday,” one of the most popular menu items, is described as “Just like a Big Mac… but with Fried Chicken.” If that doesn’t appeal to you, you can always opt for “Cap’n Crunch Crusted Chicken Fingers,” which comes with French fries and red chili bacon caramel side sauce, or Chopped Cheese Empanadas.
As you’ve probably guessed, this isn’t the latest from Daniel Boulud or Jean-Georges. As any Astorian can tell you it’s Comfortland, the much beloved Queens restaurant whose motto is “if it ain’t broke, deep-fry it.”
The comfort food emporium, which was originally known as “Queens Comfort,” will be opening a Manhattan location on the Lower East Side on May 11 following a soft opening on Apr. 20.
If the newcomer sticks with the original formula, it will open at 9 a.m. for breakfast, though if the management is really smart they’ll open three hours earlier, to accommodate the late-night hangers-on who have been partying in the neighborhood.
