They say imitation is the sincerest form of flattery. It’s a maxim that Italian-inspired scoop shop Caffè Panna appears to subscribe to. Each week, it offers a new sundae based on a dessert at a local restaurant it admires.
This week the object of the caffé’s affections is the novel pistachio tiramisu on the menu at Radio Star in Greenpoint, which is an inspirational jumping-off point for Panna’s decadent Pistachio Tiramisu Affogato Sundae. The invention begins with Panna’s own pistachio latte ice cream, then builds on layers of pistachio mascarpone, toasted Sicilian pistachios, panna (read: freshly whipped cream), and a shot of espresso.
The sundae, which launched yesterday, will be available at both of Panna’s New York City shops (Gramercy Park and Greenpoint) for a week or until supplies run out.
Caffè Panna is located at 16 Norman Avenue, in Greenpoint, Brooklyn and 77 Irving Place, in Manhattan.
