It’s been a tough year for the city’s more celebrated pizzerias and their loyal customers. Back in February, Lenny’s, a Bensonhurst slice shop immortalized by its appearance in the 1977 film “Saturday Night Fever,” announced it was pulling up stakes. Then, a couple weeks later, Sal’s Pizza Store in Cobble Hill followed suit.
Now it’s Caruso Pizzeria and Restaurant’s turn. The Smith Street store, which has been around since the 1950s, gave up the ghost with little fanfare, posting a small sign on the door earlier this month, thanking customers for 30 years of business.
